Golf has caught the fancy of people across backgrounds — from students to businessmen to housewives — with everybody aspiring to do a Tiger Woods. And that hasn't escaped the Gujarat government's notice. The state government has entered in MoUs with five different private parties to set up golf courses in the state. Of these, two will come up in Gandhinagar and Surat each and one will come up in Mandvi, Kutch. This, apart from the four - hole golf course to be set up as a part of the Ittina Film City coming up near Bavla in Ahmedabad. "Over the next few years, Gujarat should have some 20,000 golf enthusiasts. That is because they no longer will be run exclusively by county personnel. The Middlesex County Improvement Authority announced this week that RDC Golf Group Inc., based in Monroe Township, had been awarded an "operational advisory services" contract for Tamarack in East Brunswick, Raritan Landing in Piscataway and The Meadows at Middlesex in Plainsboro. All three are courses fre quented by golfers from Mercer County. RDC now owns or manages nine golf courses in seven locations from New Jersey to Florida, including Forsgate in Monroe and Blue Heron Pines West in Cologne, both semi-private courses. The Meadows at Middlesex, a 6,290-yard, par-70 course known as Princeton Meadows until Middlesex County purchased it in 1999, has been very popular over the years for Mercer golfers because of its proximity.... | |

Even with the increase, rounds at the College Hill and McCann Memorial courses remain among the lowest in the area. Under the plan, rates for city and Town of Poughkeepsie residents at the 9-hole College Hill course off North Clinton Street would increase to $10. The cost of a round for residents at 18-hole McCann off Wilbur Boulevard would rise to $18. Discounts for seniors and youth players would still apply, although officials said those rates would go up as well. Rates are higher on weekends and holidays. Officials said the last fee increase, a $2 hike, came in 2005. Approval likely The Common Council is expected to approve the increases Monday.... | |
