Virginia Golf Show swinging into town
Posted Thursday, January 11, 2007 3:00:53 PM by Blog57 Team
The calendar says January, but for thousands of area golf nuts the balmy weather means it's golf season. For golfers looking to upgrade irons or searching for a new driver to fix a pesky slice, the Virginia Golf Show swings into the Richmond Raceway Complex tomorrow, with discounts on clubs, clothing and balls. The show attracted 5,000 to 6,000 people last year, said event organizer David Posner. "From a retail standpoint, the values that the public can get at this show cannot be matched at any other type of retail environment," Posner said, alluding to show discounts on last year's models and excess inventory. ....

GOLF: Clubs back levies stance
Posted Monday, November 27, 2006 1:05:55 PM by Blog57 Team
The Maraenui Golf Club is receiving a steady stream of letters supporting its nationwide campaign to scuttle New Zealand Golf's efforts to suddenly impose increased levies on members. By yesterday the club had received 20 replies, embracing some of the 400 individual clubs and districts affiliated to NZ Golf, some suggesting they were considering forming breakaway groups. "What I like is that some of the letters are from big clubs and district associations, and they are all totally in support," Maraenui club president Bob Gray told SportToday. Gray said yesterday that NZ Golf chief executive officer Larry Graham had emailed a letter to the club, referring to a previous letter but had again sidestepped some issues. ....

E21 Golf Company Space Shot: 3 Days or 3 Years in Orbit
Posted Sunday, November 12, 2006 7:00:02 PM by Blog57 Team
Element 21 Golf Company ("E21") (OTCBB: EGLF) & (FRANKFURT: BJQ) reported new analysis of the trajectory for its golf ball which will be hit off the International Space Station, some 360 miles above the Earth, this coming Thanksgiving Day by cosmonaut Mikhail Tyurin. New orbit trajectory calculations by Russian scientists contradict NASA's original projections that the golf ball will orbit the earth for approximately 3 days, and suggest a 3 1/2 year orbit is more likely, as the ball will descend by a few yards a day. Earlier this year similar sources speculated that the ball may collide with the International Space Station with a force of a 40,000 lbs truck moving at 100 miles per hour. The Company will be analyzing the data to reconcile the large discrepancy, and hopes to put the trajectory calculations up on its website for wider review....

UK Golf show record attempt

Trickshot golfer David Edwards aims to set a new world record at the UK Golf Show which will be held at the Birmingham National Exhibition Centre from November 24-26 - hitting as many golf balls as possible in three minutes, swinging two clubs at the same time. The record currently stands at 244 but the former European Tour pro, who has established a reputation for his golfing dexterity around the world, aims to set an untouchable target on the 10,000 square metre range at the event. The UK Golf Show is a fully interactive event for all the family, with areas for children and starter golfers where PGA pro teachers will offer free advice and where you can hone your chipping and putting skills. Many of the major manufacturers, including Callaway, Cleveland, Mizuno, TaylorMade, Ping and Wilson Staff will have experts on hand, as well as a wide range of equipment to try....

Golf clubs up in arms over membership levy increases
Posted Tuesday, November 07, 2006 1:09:15 PM by Blog57 Team
Golf clubs around the country are up in arms about a sudden demand from New Zealand Golf for a drajmatic increase in membership levies, just as they've set their budgets for next year. Clubs learned late last week of increases in levies of up to 50 percent for some membership categories, and even previously exempt junior golfers and life members will be levied $12.50 and $25 respectively. The increased dues will cost larger clubs the best part of $10,000 dollars - or more. New Zealand Golf recently applied unsuccessfully for a 400-thousand dollar grant from the Rodney District Council towards the funding of next month's New Zealand Open championship at Gulf Harbour. ....
